January: Aki
-
We adopted Aki through a friend and it's been a happily-ever-after so far!
-
His name is Aki and Aki means autumn! His color reminded us of all the colors of autumn and the different shades he would be adding to our lives.
February: Love
-
I have always believed in giving a second chance to deserving animals on the streets which could be achieved by adopting a pup, hence, we adopted 'love'! We named her love, not to sound cliché but that is what she meant to us! She filled our home with love and joy!

March: Atom
-
We adopted Atom from HAS. We came across a post by HAS on Instagram saying five 1 month old pups were put in a card board box and left in front of the shelter heartlessly. Around the same time, we were thinking of getting a dog and seeing those beautiful tiny pups, we contacted HAS and met the foster parents the very next morning. And out of those 5 pups, Atom was the one who greeted us who were being complete strangers and played with us. And so, we knew Atom was the one.
-
Atom was really tiny for her age when she came to us first. But totally disproportionate to her size was the incredible amount of energy she had in her. What other name could be more suitable for her than Atom?
April: Tara
-
My love for dogs began when I was 7 when I saw my grandfather interacting with these faithful beings on our street. He made me believe that they, too, have a right to share our neighborhood. So every time I came across pictures of puppies up for adoption, I would tell myself that I would soon get a place of my own and adopt as many puppies as I can.
Once I happened to be scrolling through the stories on Instagram when I saw Tara's adoption appeal. That exact moment is tough to describe but something in me told me that I just had to adopt her. And so I convinced my family and brought her home when she was hardly two months old. I am both awed and humbled to see her grow into a beautiful dog with her own personality and quirks. Minus the puppy energy, Tara is super gentle and the cuddliest puppy I have ever met. She is such a happy puppy, and her tail would wag non-stop whenever she is around people!
-
I am a hardcore Mani Ratnam fan and have always wanted to name my pets after the characters in his movies. I had fallen in love with Tara from OK Kanmani and so when we adopted her, the name came so naturally to all of us!
May: Milo
-
Two litters of pups were given birth near my cousin's place and sadly, both mums abandoned them. Most of the pups died or were taken away by the time it came to our attention but my sister and I adopted one pup each. They're both born around ten days apart and now, they live 200m away from each other and have brother play dates often!
I got Milo after begging my parents to let me get a pupper for 8 years. I've been obsessed with Milo, the drink and always made mum get kilos whenever she came back from her visits abroad. My favourite sight is watching the white milk turn chocolatey brown as we mix in the Milo. Since I love Milo, I named him Milo and fell in love with him the second he peed in my hand.

-
Growing up i was a huge fan of Shinchan.I always wanted a pet like Shinchan, and my own Shiro to my Shinchan. ❤️
July: Rio
-
I was desperate for a puppy and mom wouldn't let me have one, and with the help of my friend i found a litter of pups near my friends house, and adopted one from it.
-
I named him after the movie "RIO" I'm a big fan of animated films and Rio is my favourite. I named Rio after my favourite animated movie because of how much laughter he brings to my life .
August: Bolt
-
"Bolt was tiny but screamed in the middle of the road at 3 AM, we sent my brother to check what had happened. That's how we brought him home, he was very small and was only 20 days old. At that time, we already had 2 indie dogs whom we had adopted from streets and didn't intend to keep Bolt with us. We reached out to a person who wanted a dog, but he said it'll take 3 months for him to finish constructing his house and then adopt him.
Within 3 months, he became the sweetest and the most energetic boy of the house. We got to know all of his characteristics and habits. When the time came, we couldn’t give him away. He had already become ours. We named him BOLT as he was super energetic and was always running around. Unfortunately during the first lockdown, when he was two, he passed away after getting infected with Distemper. We just want to always keep him in our memories through his picture in this calendar!"
-
Bolt - because he was so energetic and all he did was running around the house and always wanting to play non stop.
September: Tom&Jerry
-
Tom and Jerry are the result of epic foster fails and we couldn't be happier! During their initial days as foster brats, they got along so well with our older dog and instantly became family. The best part has to be when my mom, who used to be wary of new dogs, fell in love with them and refused to part ways!
-
We've named them after the legendary cartoon duo owing to their mischief, tireless energy, and the ruckus they cause!
October: Shivaji
-
Our "gotcha! story" happened very organically. We had set our minds on raising a dog who really needed a family and that is how we adopted Shivaji. He is our third Indie, he has our hearts and he's the boss baby at home! We are thrilled because people who interact with Shivaji invariably fall in love with him and also come to realize that Indies can be easily trained and are just as cuddly as other breeds. We are hopeful that Shivaji's story would help many more of his Indie sisters and brothers get the loving homes they deserve!
-
As we said, he is the boss at home. He never lets us raise our voices against each other or make any sudden moves. We named him after the fictional movie character "Shivaji the boss" and needless to say, he lives up to his name.
November: Luna
-
The dogs in my street gave birth to a litter of 8 pups and I was looking after them since they were born. One little brave girl of the lot stood out of the lot, Luna. Rest of her siblings were shy but she would always playfully bite me and run towards me whenever I visited.
We put all the siblings up for adoption, called professional photographers for their photoshoot but before it was Luna's turn to find a permanent home, she got hit by a car and passed away. That incident shook us and we had to amplify all our resources to find the rest of them homes quickly!
I shared a special bond with her, the kind of love I received from that pup is unmatched to anything I’ve ever experienced. Luna will always be in my heart. I was a foster mom once before and that changed my whole outlook on Indies, I became more caring and aware of everything around me.
-
Luna- she shone like the moon. Bright light in the dark
December: Maya
-
It was love at first sight!😂
Saw her at the Pet Fest organised by The Pawsome People and at that very moment I knew, ""I need her in my life"". I immediately asked my Mom if we could adopt her and she said ""ok, bring her"", and that’s how Mayaa entered my life!
As a kid, I used to love this movie called ""Eight Below"", which was about 8 huskies stranded in Antartica and how they manage survive. One amongst them was ""Maya"", she was their leader and she helped the others to survive. From then on I always wanted a pup and name her ""Maya""
